I can’t believe how many non-rock acts are in the HOF (even if you ignore the “early influences” category).
Rick Derringer should definitely have a spot. After all he is one of the founding fathers of Rock & Roll as we came to know it. Killer Blues, Jazz, & Rock-man. He is still alive and well, and continues to tour his three bands.
I’m amazed: Not only are Tommy James and the Shondells not in the RRHOF but they are not on Farber’s list and not mentioned once in the first 100 posts on this thread.
They are without doubt the most serious omission. You don’t have a sense of the late 1960s without Hanky Panky, I Think We’re Alone Now, Mony Mony, Crimson and Clover, Crystal Blue Persuasion, Sweet Cherry Wine, Gettin Together, Draggin the Line.
Mony Mony, top rock dance song of all time, ahead of Shout.
I Think We’re Alone Now - best ever young teen love song from the teen point of view.
First band to knock the Beatles from the weekly No. 1 position on Top 40.
Plus, he had the obligatory drinking and drugging songs.
Hanky Panky - broke the censorship code.
Ladies and gentlemen, Tommy James!
Maybe they picked Klaatu or Aaliyah that year.
CLARENCE CARTER
Bruce "Little Man" Springsteen is probably in. Isn't that bad enough?

Generic rock bands are a dime a dozen. You need something to stand out in a crowd.
Also, a lot of the old 70s bands have been forgotten. They had a chance to get in, and that moment passed. If they didn't have a top 40 hit or they're not together any more nobody remembers them.
My, but I don’t recognize the names of most of those would-be entrants. May have something to do with ceasing to listen to pop music after 1969.
With one exception, I have heard ABBA and can readily understand why they made the cut. Damn, those Swedes could rock, you know?
Heart should be in there.
Dave Edmunds
Ian Hunter (with or post Mott The Hoople)
Slade
Nazareth
etc....
What cracks me up is that anybody cares who that queer ultra-liberal Jan Wenner puts in his silly “Hall”. I never heard of half the “hip hop artists” who are already in the stupid thing.
I will say, though, it’s a fun place to visit once (if you can handle Cleveland). Be sure to visit the “Rob Argent” display. Yeah, it has Rod’s name as “Rob Argent”.
