2010 Census - Minimum Answers (Vanity)
3/15/10 | Vanity

Posted on 03/15/2010 1:08:28 PM PDT by cowtowney

What are the minimum questions to answer on the short form census?

PLEASE! if you don't know the LEGAL answer, don't make stuff up. I'm not looking for opinion, I'm looking for facts, backed up by a link.

This will be very helpful for a lot of folks.

Again, don't say "your name and number of people in your household" if you don't back it up. That's not helpful. In other threads, there have been answers like name and number of people; number of people only, etc. Also, I'm not worried about what race you are. I just want to know what questions HAVE to be answered.

The census had my address on it.
I answered 2 in household .
I don’t care whether they come to get me, that’s all they get.
The rest is common knowledge.

In Article 1, Section 2, the Constitution [An] Enumeration shall be made within three Years after the first Meeting of the Congress of the United States, and within every subsequent Term of ten Years, in such Manner as they shall by Law direct.

Enumeration = how many people are living in your home. That's it!!! in such Manner as they shall by Law direct.

How they take the count is up to congress. That's it!

The answer you want: The U.S. Census is mandatory by federal law. There is a clear federal warning in the code about refusing to give the required information to the Census Bureau. U.S. Code, Title 13 states that citizens must comply with the census or face a $100 fine. There is a $500 penalty for giving false information.

Added fluff: I will answer in a manner that is “truthful but not helpful” to quote a well-known Democrat. My race? HUMAN. My phone number 555-1212 (information, you can reach me at that number). Etc. The number of residents will be correct because they have a right to that information, but that’s pretty close to my limit.

I thought I knew until this morning I heard on Fox News someone said (not sure who it was,was listening) we have to answer all of their questions or be fined.

I looked at my husband and he said maybe they want you to think that? Good Grief! The Constitution says one thing but the dems in charge are making their own rules it appears.

We will be answering the questions that are not personal and sending it back in the mail. If they come to our door we will not be home. I am not telling 8000 felons what time I leave each day for work or how much money I make.

I have a friend who was interviewed for the census superviser. In the last interview the questions was asked. “Do you think you could ask house members how much money they make?” Now obviously that wasn’t part of the original census that was created to count heads or why would anyone have a problem asking?

Technically they all need to be answered. It’s illegal to lie on the form, so don’t. BUT you can suggest the post office lost the form, and NO you won’t fill it out again...You can put down AMERICAN for race (in the other box).

Do you want a real, legal answer?

Legally, you are obliged to answer all the questions. Failure to do so can lead to prosecution and a fine. Deliberately giving false answers is an even more serious crime.

Now, what the chances are of being prosecuted is a different question. But if you are truly concerned about what the law says, the law says “fill it out and return it.”

I answered (in person) that there were 2 people in my household. Nothing else. The census person said thank you and left.

Thank you. Your links are helpful.

It appears that:

1. you only have to put the number of people in household
2. don’t answer falsely
3. the worst that can happen is a $100 fine

I’m looking at my Census form now. It says to fill it out and mail it in. I can’t because it asks me questions prefaced with “As of April 1st, 2010...”
I can’t predict the future. So I can’t fill it out. I CAN mail it back in though...

The questions don't make sence:

Question One: How many people were living or staying in this house, apartment, or mobile home on April 1, 2010?

I and my family will not be home that week, so the answer to that question would be zero? Correct?

Question Two: Were there any additional people staying here April 1, 2010 that you did not include in question one?

Well why would have not included them in question one?

Seriously, if no one was in the home on 4/1/2010, the answer would be zero... correct?
