Years ago we had a small mutt. One day she got annoyed by my son crawling behind her and she snapped at his face. A neighbor, hearing that I planned to take her to the animal shelter, begged me to let her have the dog. She had a toddler and a preschooler. I told her as clearly as I could that the dog had NO business being around small children and that I wasn't comfortable passing her along to their family.

When I didn't relent, she got nasty. I just didn't know what the heck I was doing! My son had probably been mean to the dog! Hey, fine, take the dog. I've said my piece.

Two weeks later she was getting rid of the dog because it bit her toddler.
