Did you create an ‘administrator’ login name and password when you installed windows?

If not, then the login would be ‘administrator’, with no password.

I’m not sure what you mean. I’m not the brightest bulb when it comes to PC.

Thanks,

“Are you logged in?” is a FR meme. I altered it a bit. Someone will be by to help, remain faithful (I bumped your thread, in any case).

Sorry but you never gave me the password either......you said you were going to keep it safe by writing it on the palm of your hand.

http://www.online-tech-tips.com/computer-tips/4-ways-to-crack-or-reset-a-forgotten-windows-xp-administrator-password/

Is a pretty good article on the subject. I've tried (1) and (2). (2) worked. Note - this is for Windows XP or earlier only; no guarantee that it will work on later versions.

Hope this helps.

You can try this utility. You will need another computer which is capable of burning an iso image. Assuming XP or Vista, download the appropriate version from here:

http://pcsupport.about.com/gi/o.htm?zi=1/XJ&zTi=1&sdn=pcsupport&cdn=compute&tm=54&f=10&su=p284.9.336.ip_p504.1.336.ip_&tt=4&bt=1&bts=1&zu=http%3A//ophcrack.sourceforge.net/

Here are some instructions, or links to instructions:
http://pcsupport.about.com/od/toolsofthetrade/gr/ophcrack.htm

If you need an ISO burning utility, you can download a free one from here:
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/burncdcc.html

Download and burn the above ISO, then boot from the disk on the computer needing the password reset.

Note: This is not the one I have used, but looks significantly less complicated.

HTH,
Eric

If you have another login that has Admin permissions, you can change it that way.

Create an Ultimate boot CD and use the password changer to change the password.

John the ripper works pretty good for changing the admin pass.
