The Egyptian pyramids weren't built in prehistoric times; the exterior used to be covered with smooth facing stones which were carved with hieroglyphs, and endured until Greek accounts recorded that, at least.
Hemiunu, the architect of the Great Pyramid, was interred near it, and his name is on or in the tomb.
