In the long run, this may come back to bite Obama because he may not believe private firms can put manned ships into space on their own without government taking the lead. However, in the short run over a few years, Obama probably has slowed down the progression of US manned space flight.

The Commercial Spaceflight Federation does not have the capacity to sustain and expand our nation's technological base. NASA has been one of cornerstone of this foundation.
The Commercial Spaceflight Federation is self-serving, and short sighted. Where do they think future engineers are going to come from? India I suppose.
