Amazing stuff. I’m hoping I can wait until Christmas for one, but the camera is appealing. Heck, if I didn’t think the OLED was going to be astronomical, I would even consider that if it comes to pass.
I know text books are part of the plan as well. I would be in heaven if I never had to carry books from class to class or lecture to lecture. Have your textbook and take notes on the same device.
Amazing things coming.
No. It uses a Light LED backlit LCD display with a 179º view and very bright. It is an e-reader though. Monthly fees are not required... WIFI on the lower priced models can use your WIFI at hotspots around the country to access the web and download content. You can buy the 3G and pay as you go either $14.95/month for 250MB or $29.95 for unlimited access. I'm wondering if AT&T won't offer a combo iPhone/iPad deal.
The problem with multitasking is that so many applications are stupid about it, demanding far more CPU time than is warranted. No biggie on a 3GHz machine with gobs of memory and robust system management, but a very big deal on a lightweight system. Kinda like the old motherly nag “well THAT is why we can’t have nice things!”
Seems the hype leading up to the iPad vs. the actual introduction proves that those who know aren't talking - period. There's too much "game of 'Telephone'" going on here, with so many people talking that nothing viable is being repeated.
Those who said they knew said this thing was supposed to have dual cameras, OLED, 1080p, fingerprint reader, face recognition, solar charger, Verizon/T-Mobile/Sprint/whatever, no/minimal bezel, dual-plug mounting, chess, and a boatload of other uberfeatures. What we got (exactly what I wanted) was an oversized iPod Touch.
Yes, Apple surely has an upgrade path in mind. Beyond that, anyone who says they know doesn't.
4.0 is a lot closer than one might think. Supposedly backward compatibility will not be an issue and while there will obviously be a 4.0 SDK, developers won’t see it until JUST before release - developers outside of Apple that is.
I thought it was strange as well, but Apple isn’t known for doing things in a normal way...
It seems that Apple purposely internally released red herrings. Mole hunt maybe?
Of your list of “fantasy” iPad features, I would say dual cameras, solar charger, and no bezel are the only ones not being developed.
I think that the iPad, as released, is pretty neat. I still am trying to decide whether or not I will buy one now or wait. If too many people are like me, Apple may have a problem on its hands.
There will soon be millions of those fools, you guys look at what you think it don't do, and totally ignore what it actually does.
Besides Wall Street always bad mouths Apple when they have good news, makes for buying opportunities I guess.
For my needs, the iPad is perfect. For $500 I’m getting one, it’s not gonna be for everybody
I think I’ll wait for the next version (iPad 2.0) which will be half the price, have none of the bugs and come with an apology for all the Kotex jokes.
