My initial prediction:

This will go down in history as one of the biggest tech flops ever. The name will be the main reason for this.

Interesting comment, coming from someone with your background.

As you probably don’t recall from an Apple Pad thread you started months ago, I’ve had that opinion since I first heard about their plans — and it has nothing to do with the name.

Could be wrong though; we shall see.

But...but....this is the first Apple doodad I really want. Now, this minute. That never happens....LOL. But of course, I haven’t seen what the asking price is yet...

You may be right - but the same thing was said some time back when the iPod was introduced...

And some thought Steve was nuts with the colorful computers..

And lest we forget the pontificating predictions of Apple's demise when they quit including the floppy drive, instead substituting the USB port....

But I suspect that they will sell a bunch of these, if for no other reason that the hype that has built up. There will probably be lines waiting at Apple Retail Stores for these, and orders will be lined up online as well.

The real test will be if sales continue,or if they rapidly fall off.

I can't help but think, as many have, of the Newton. A very clever device that was just a decade (or less) ahead of its time. It took several years of PDA development and evolution before Handspring, Palm and others caught up to what Apple had already given up on.

Steve hasn't made very many mistakes regarding products and marketing in the last decade - I don't think he is starting now.
