There is a big difference between shooting varmints and coming up with elaborate and unusual methods to inflict misery on animals.

I'm from the country and we don't torture cats and dogs.

It is not common, true. However, it is not all that uncommon either. The worst I ever did was shoot a robin with a bb gun when I was in 6th grade. I looked down at the pathetic little thing with blood oozing out of a hole in it’s chest and felt awful. I thought about it a lot. I saw the pointlessness of it and never did it again. Interestingly, it was not for the sake of the robins that I may or may not have killed. It was for my own sake.

In other words, it was in the spirit of the same reason I stay away from pr0n.
