Knitting? Ballroom dancing? Gardening?

I enjoy the AOM blog greatly ... but those are odd choices for manly hobbies.

Gardening?

Wonder it gardening includes lawns and lawncare, planter construction, landscape, planting and pruning trees, plotting out orchards and such.

One common theme seems to be on self-reliance - ham radio, gardening, leatherwork, woodwork, metalwork, marksmanship, archery, hunting, hiking, camping, mountaineering, cooking, etc. (I agree that reloading appears to be an oversight); another common trait is concentration - magic, reading, guitar playing, ballroom dancing, etc (and reloading). A third group is learning about others - I would put foreign languages, ballroom dancing, and ham radio into this category. Lastly, there is fun and relaxation - I would have sailing, scuba diving, cigars/pipe smoking, fine scotches, etc.

In short, being a man means being able to stand on your own two feet, learn voraciously, understand and respect others, and enjoy life purposefully (a useful distinction between happiness and hedonism) - a healthy mind in a healthy body.

One addition: Take part in religious activities, for a better understanding of yourself, human nature, and the world in which we live. It is manly to exercise restraint...
