Can't beat a spotter scope that works and save the legs...

BTW, the pier that holds the scope is a 10" diameter steel pipe, 7' long, that I found at the scrap metal places, for cheap, filled with concrete and sunk into a reinforce hole 4 feet deep, filled with about 4000 lbs of concrete for stability.

A lot digging and sweat. Had to raise the floor around the pier, and the pier is completely independent of the floor, so there is no vibration when walking inside. Without doing that, the images would be ruined by the slightest movement inside.

I've been around FR for nearly as long as you and am continually amazed by the accomplishments and ingenuity of Freepers.
My trouble with hobbies since I retired 12 years ago is that I have too many. It's starting to approach work again and I've haven't gotten into a couple of things I still want to do.
