I thought it was Bob Dylan who wrote Woody Gutrie’s songs? J. Paul Getty wrote Elvis Presley’s hits, that’s common knowledge among music historians and culture buffs.

Mea culpa, you are correct, I was miss-remembering there. Woody Guthrie was actually a shoe salesman who's name Bob Dylan had found in an old Kinny shoes catalog. Bob chose to write a series of songs and credit them as Woody Guthrie. According to the legend, Bob and Phil Ochs were taking a steam bath and Phil had suggested that Bob should publish his music. Phil finished by telling Bob "You should really go out there and shake your woody"

As far as the attribution of Elvis' songs to J. Paul Getty goes, there are actually quite a few scholars who feel that Ted Turner is a much closer match to Elvis' style.
