It's arrogance, pure arrogance at Notre Dame. They lost their way under Fr. Monk Malloy and Fr. William Beauchamp more than 15 years ago. Gave up the football franchise and began to worship money and political correctness instead. An alumni uprising at the end of Willingham's tenure led to his firing and a coaching search. The uniiversity has no real desire to win at the highest levels or they would put all that money where their mouth is and hire a great coach. Kelly is a good coach, unproven at the highest levels. We'll see. In the meantime, Notre Dame has become a greedy place, preaching all sorts of platitudes and not necessarily walking the walk.
I can cite countless examples, but I'll spare you all unless you really want to know.
I love the old Notre Dame I went to and struggle mightily with what she has become. I pray she'll abandon some of the nonsense she embraced under Malloy, but do not believe Fr. Jenkins, the new president, is a good leader as evidenced by the Obama matter. You are welcome to invite the leader of the free world to come speak at the commencement exercise, but please don't honor him with a degree.
