I think that every time I see/hear her name - though I was picking it up from the very similar Czech word!

Am I the only Russian-speaker on this thread to notice that Uchitel’s surname means “the teacher”? My Russian is fairly elementary, but isn't учитель a male teacher? Whereas a female teacher is учительница?
