I think of my Uncle, who was wading ashore from the am tracks that got hung up at low tide at Tarawa, trying to keep his head down while Japanese machine gun placements raked them from the shore, while at the same time massive friendly incoming from the fleet tore in over their heads in close quarter mincing the shore and those close to it...unimaginable from the comfortable place I have known all my life ...God Bless and hold them all...
