It depends on how they play it. Remember the movie Red Dawn. The kids at the beginning are running away. The one is crying about all the people they see getting killed. But then the one has to confront his father being executed. And the F-15 pilot (Col Tanner) gives them all the "Shut up, grow up, toughen up" speech. This is a long tradition is story telling, that dates back well before Hollywood. People are living in fear and just trying to survive. Then a character is introduced who says that the only way to survive is to fight back. This brings about a great split between the run and hide camp and the fight while we still can camp.

If they are going to follow this path watch for the introduction of an Alpha Male character into the show. In the original V the part was played by Michael Ironsides. If your cast is already dominated by a bunch of Alpha Males you can't give the toughen up speech. You never have the confrontation between the run and hide group and the fight it out group. That speech is usually given by someone who enters the story later, or in other cases by someone who has some drastic personal tragedy that causes them to become much more bloody minded. Importantly it is never the group leader, although they may take up that role for a short time. The person is usually a red shirt, meaning for non Star Trek fans that they are not likely to survive long. This forces one of the main characters to become the leader and carry on the fight.
