Looks like a boat begging for a torpedo.

the craft completed the round-the-world trip using 100 per cent renewable biodiesel fuel, with a net zero carbon footprint

So, riddle me this Batman.... How can you drive a carbon-fuel-based vehicle around the world, and wind up with zero emissions?

"Net Zero" to me, sounds like fudged accounting.

I like Canadian Capt Paul Watson of the Sea Shep Society.

He had major battles with the Sierra Club saying they were essentially shills for the DNC who wanted open borders. The original Sierra Clue was against sprawl and open borders.

I wonder how effective Kevlar would be against a harpoon cannon?

I also note that it is prop driven. Guess what happens to a small submarine that gets its prop fouled on a net?

Nothing. That is, it has to blow its ballast and surface, sitting there, wistfully, until divers can get its prop cleared. And if the net it weighted, it can’t surface.

I bet sonar men half an ocean away would suddenly turn pale, hearing the sound of a boat descending past crush depth.

I’ve actually watched the show - The captain of the Sea Shepard is a pirate by my estimate. He is also pretty much an Eco Idiot! Their “campaigns” have been pretty much useless, and this year they got completely stumped by the Japanese fleet’s defensive maneuverer of hanging tall netting around their ships. The Sheppard’s typical attack method was to throw bueteric acid (sp?) onto the working areas of the Japanese processing ship. Their bottles can get there anymore with the netting. Further, they were ordered by the Danes who register the Steve Irwin to not throw things from the ship anymore. Of course they eventually violated the Danish order.

These guys are idiotic pirates.

I wonder if it's been tested against a high-powered harpoon?

These idiots should be treated like pirates. They need to meet creative justice on the high seas. What laws govern if they are run down by a fishing trawler, for instance. Everyone has always been very careful and only taking defensive measures. If they become more aggressive, should’;t the fishing fleet be able take countermeasures...

That sounds like a fun challenge for the Japanese, discover all the creative ways you can sink this boat.

I won’t shed a tear for the Sea-Shepard hippies.

These guys are terrorists and they are treated by our media as heroes. If I was Japan, I would treat their attacks as an act of terrorist aggression and destroy them.

They don’t care about whales. All this is just an angle to ride in a cool boat and have somebody else pay.

I often wonder why the Japanese vessels don’t
run them down, shoot a net over them, etc.

They are interfering with a legal trade and I
would think maritime law would cover this...

These people are pests.

I'll put my money down on them running their nifty black kevlar boat into a whaler, and blaming the Japanese for the collision and associated damage. The Earthracer requires tremendous amounts of repairs each year, and has failed to find any sponsors willing to pay the huge costs associated with maintaining the hull.

The real losers, of course, will be whatever fool company is underwriting the insurance on it, who is about to write a very big check.

So what the heck are they gonna do with it, ram the whaler? More likely run into the whale, which would be sweetly ironic.
