They are going to make an example of Carrie Prejean. The idea is that if you try and stand up for principle, they’ll dig around and find anything they can to discredit you or humiliate you, to make sure that others will think twice before speaking out of turn.

You see, if you’ve ever done anything wrong, ever, then you have no right to speak up for what is right, ever again in your life. Which means that since no one is without sin, no one can ever speak against sin. Ever.

At least, thats the game. Thats the way they will try to bully you. If you take a stand, prepare to have all of your dirty laundry on the cover of People Magazine. Since most people can’t face that kind of scrutiny, most people will just shut up and keep their heads down. Which is what they want you to do.

They didn’t just “did around”, they hunted down all of her ex-boyfriends and offered them money for any dirt on her.

You're thinking about this way too hard or you are very young - I'm inclined to think it's both. It has nothing to do with principles and everything to do with celebrity.

If you are a high-profile celebrity and especially one who gained her fame through attention seeking beauty pagents, Fox's TMZ show is going to dig up anything and everything they can on you. They are just continuing a long tradition - back in 1982 or 1983 before you were born, there was a young woman, Vanessa Williams, who made it all the way ot Miss America, or Miss USA or whatever idiotic beauty pageant it was, and it didn't take long before the muckrakers dug up stuff on her.

Decades before that, you had the pulp Hollywood magazines that were doing the same thing.

Is Fox's TMZ show sleazy? Certainly, they even heavily advertise the sleaziness. I try not to watch Fox or any network TV when I can, but I see enough Fox to see plenty of sleazy ads for it. Is Prejean dumb for allowing her body to be used to sell swimsuits or for making sex-related videos, given that she was involved in a "career" that automatically invites scrutiny from all facets of the media, sleazy or otherwise? Yes.

It's easy to say that Prejean is naive and could never imagine that people would find out about her modeling or that Fox/TMZ would seek out her ex-boyfriends looking for dirt on her, but she is in a career that is focused on attention seeking and she can't be so dumb as to think nobody would dig into her past.

What's most pathetic about this is that she's playing this up as a left-wing campaign of harassment by Fox/TMZ and the media in general when really it has nothing to do with politics or stances and everything to do with celebrity and her profession. She's trying to sell perfection or near-perfection and she could be the biggest raging left-wing nutter around and the media is still going to go after her. Fox/TMZ is still going to be seeking out videos and photos of her.

There are men (and women) who are 2-3 years younger than her who are mature enough and responsible enough to risk their lives and die for their country overseas, and she comes across as really shallow for playing up that she was naive or too young to know better.
