Is that based on ‘The Haunting of Hill House’ by Shirley Jackson? I have read that novel a dozen times and never tire of it.
I also read, ‘We Have Always Lived in the Castle’ (also by Jackson) time and again. An absolutely wonderful study in madness. I think of Constance and ‘Merricat’ quite often. ;)
“The Seventh Victim;” “Rosemary’s Baby;” “Alien;” Bram Stoker’s Dracula” by Coppola; “The Ninth Gate;” “Predator.”
i’m not a big fan of horror movies, i prefer suspense/thriller types and there are only a few of them i would say i really liked.
*The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane (1977) Jodie Foster and Martin Sheen. some folks would say it isn’t really scary, but it is creepy.
*April Fool’s Day (1986) suspense and gruesome murder abound.
*The Serpent and the Rainbow (1988) Wes Craven directed. MEGA-CREEPY!!
*Leviathan (1989) sci fi/suspense/horror. maybe a bit cheesy, but hey! it’s Richard Crenna and Peter Weller.
AND THE NUMBER ONE THRILLER/HORROR MOVIE OF ALL TIME IS...
JAWS. (you’re gonna need a bigger boat)
The movie's remake was ok, but it couldn't touch the first movie or the book.
I didn't get so much out of We Have Always Lived at the Castle. It's been a long time; but I remember that there was more description and fewer events than I needed to keep hooked. Maybe I'll have to try it again.
That was my first thought, too. Lol!
The Car.
Not too scary, just scary enough that walking down a pitch black driveway you looked over your shoulder.
I’m sure it was because I was young and impressionable when I first saw it, but the first horror movie to give me nightmares was “Phantasm”.
Also the first time I saw full frontal nudity in a movie theater.
Selma Hayek with Tito and Tarantula make for a great song.
Yep, totally agree on all counts. Just a brilliant film and soooo scary!
BTW, I don’t know if you saw the 2003 “Director’s Cut” re-release or not, but there were a couple of really good scenes that didn’t make the original film. My absolute favorite was this one of Ripley’s discovery of Dallas after he disappeared in the airshaft. I won’t give it away, but it not only puts Cameron’s “queen egglayer” concept on its head, I think it adds an entirely new level of horror to the Alien.

BTW, somewhere out there is a better version of that clip - a longer, better-lit version that shows Dallas and Brett’s fate a bit more clearly. Unfortunately, YouTube removed it a couple months ago. Well worth checking out if you run across it.
‘Final Destination’ is one of the most disturbing movies I ever saw.
John Carpenter’s ‘The Thing’ is up there in creepiness, too.
‘Wait Until Dark’ is the first movie to make me jump out of my seat.
But at the top of my list: ‘The Omen’ starring Gregory Peck.
My daughter, 20 years later, still gets chills whenever I mention the 1990 television movie, Stephen King's 'It'. It's because of the scene where the clown (Pennywise) smiles as he looks out from the sewer grate and answers the child: "Oh yes! I have balloons."

I saw Jaws like two weeks before traveling to the Southern Islands of the Phillipines.

The Island we stayed on Taft, Samar was luckily surrounded by a barrior reef.

I thought “We Have...” was a great murder mystery. I didn’t see it coming up until the end, which always pleases me, having read mysteries since I was a kid.
When I find one I can’t see the ending to, I’m thrilled. ;)
Maybe I identify too much with crazy MerriCat, but I like her free spirit. Besides, who hasn’t wanted to murder a family member or two at one time or another? LOL!

Yes I heard. In the directors cut. Those types of scenes were among the most disturbing ones in the second film. Very disturbing. The first film was a masterpiece.
