For a myriad of reasons, I have spent the last few months watching a movie most every weeknight. I have finally gotten my moneys worth from my Netflix account.
But, lately I have had trouble finding movies I think I will like. I scour Netflix and am having a hard time finding movies that interest me, though I know they are out there.
My interest runs from war movies to action flicks to quirky indy films to foreign art things.
Some of my favorite movies I have seen the past few months are Defiance, all of the Sean Connery Bond films, Sleeper, The Right Stuff, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, Riding Giants, a Hard Days Night, and a few foreign artsy films whose names I dont recall.
By far my favorite movie I have seen lately is Everything is Illuminated.
I have no interest in horror flicks, romance movies, teen gross out flicks or most movies made in the 1960s.
Could anyone be so kind as to suggest a good movie or two?
Thanks
I just saw the promo.I think that Radio Caroline reached
Germany where I was stationed? Although,I remember listening
to Radio Luxembourg.
Second votes for:
Forgetting Sarah Marshall
Band of Brothers
I cannot believe I went through over 100 posts and did not see Blazing Saddles mentioned.
It's a given.
Yeah, but everyone assumes everyone else has already seen it.
As popular as Blazing Saddles is, you don’t even need to have seen it to know most of the scenes by heart.
“Changeling”
“The Soloist”
I almost forgot I have that sitting on my shelf. Mom got it for me for Christmas a few years ago and I have yet to see it.
Gary Sinise is a class act. I will check out these films. Thanks!
Speaking of Mel Brooks, one of his most unknown movies was “The Twelve Chairs”, it’s not like his usual fare, but it’s a very good comedy set in the days right after the Russian Revolution.
Ang - a friend lent me her copy of RH - absolutely GREAT! And I’m usually not a Ronald Coleman fan - my mother loved him - but he is BRILLIANT in this movie!
For War movies you can’t miss “Band of Brothers” about Easy Company during WWII. Seen it 3 times so far.
Also “Enemy at the Gate” is very good.
“The Return” — a foreign film, has an “ah-ha” moment you will never forget. It will generate lots of conversation afterwards. In fact would love to chat with you after you see it. (Mmm, where had this man been?)
“Cinema Paradiso” — my all time favorite. For anyone who loves movies.
Eeeeek, I’d agree except for *spoiler alert* Ab and John DOING IT when they reunite in (I think) France - I DO NOT need to have a reinactment of the Adams’ sex life!!! Thank you very much....
They did keep their clothes on.
Well there MIGHT be a few movies you apparently haven’t seen. How about Casablanca; Harvey; the Odd Couple; Arsenic and Old Lace; Battleground; the Mark of Zorro; The Adventures of Robin Hood; Mutiny on the Bounty (with Laughton, of course); Goodbye Mr. Chips; Gunga Din; Stagecoach...There are several thousand more.

I don’t watch many new movies...
Oh, well THAT makes a difference....
