Thanks for the picture. I imagine thare are plenty of of other examples of fertile crossbreeds than so far listed on here.
Puts the lie to the ‘old’ definition of “species” about critters that can breed & produce fertile offspring.
IIRC, the plant world is even more promiscuous..

True enough, considering that the lions and tigers ranges no longer intersect. But the statement was that such offspring were incapable of reproduction.
Coyotes have wolf and dog genes from fertile hybrids.

Yes, plants are even more promiscuous, as they have less problems just keeping ALL the DNA from both parents and letting them swap amongst themselves.
A ‘species’ is a population of interbreeding individuals. The fact that even this definition isn't always a fine line, but more like trying to pin down exactly where the scrub-lands become swamplands to a precise line, doesn't make calling something a “species” a lie, nor was the impossibility of producing fertile offspring the ‘old’ definition. People have for centuries described numerous species that were quite capable of producing fertile offspring together.

Entirely subjective point of view and no hard(no pun intended) evidence to back it up. The guy says as much when he says’’ I’m sure they had sex’’. No one knows if neanderthal and modern human DNA were or could have been compatible or if the two groups even ever inter-acted with each other in any way. Totaly subjective

Yes, but that picture is an example of one of the better known congenital defects exibited by the offspring of the pairing being discussed.
Is it just me, or is the right side (left in pic) of his face a lot smaller than the left? Hold your hand up and block first one side, and then the other...See?!
WTF?
