Pretty Woman was catchy, popular and a fun song, all combined to make the song a huge and much deserved hit.
But, Crying and Running Scared, were the songs you listened to at night and were the songs that made me a Roy Orbison fan.

I’ve heard some studio demos Orbison did — he did a cover of “Unchained Melody” that is amazingly haunting. The only drawback is that as it was only a demo, he didn’t go for the high note, but marked it down an octave...

I enlisted in the Air Force in 1955. I went to basic training at Parks AFB, CA. After the first few weeks of basic, we were allowed to go to the BX. There were 3 or 4 guys in my flight that bought a 45 rpm record player and the recording of Unchained Melody. They would sit in the day room around that record player and cry while listening to that song. Was it Orbison that did it in 1955?

One of the greatest voices ever, and he put such emotion into
his songs.
The first time I saw him was at the motorcycle wreck that
killed his wife.He lost children in a house fire later.
The man had such terrible tragedys in his life.
He used to come to our church right before the service
would start and sit on the back row as to not create a
disturbance.
Man,he could put on a great show,what a voice.

Correction. It was probably Al Hibbler.

I really can’t remember who it was. I just remember those guys sitting around and crying while listening to that song.
