Did they even know about Venus back then?
Did they even know to call the planet they observed ‘Venus”?
Did they know that they were looking at a planet?
“Venus” figure indeed.....=.=

I don’t know but the white figurine looks more like a penis than a Venus to me.
To: SunkenCiv

That's some original symbol......X marks the spot.
Just think in a few thousand years, some aspiring archaeologist will dig and find
in a Late Meso-American site named Bur Bank and hypothesize what went wrong with the once thriving culture.

maybe not extinct but the group became more developed through evolution of selective breeding.
Guys wouldn’t give ‘em a tumble.

Could’ve come from anywhere. Could’ve fallen out of Byron’s pants when he swam the Hellespont.

It refers not to a planet, but to a love goddess. :’)

I have on my bookshelf a 5,000 year old statue of the goddess Artemis (5,000 is just an estimate - statue hasn’t been carbon dated.) I bought it from a Turk for five bucks in the environs of excavated Ephesus. I was able to smuggle it out of Turkey unchallenged by the antiquities police.

Fertility more like it, but it still bothers me that they label these type figurines as “Venus figures,” though I do understand the symbolism of doing such.
