Aykroyd had a great Dole. I liked Norm McDonald’s, too. But Norm’s always had a little bit of anti-humor in him; his was sort of a non-impression impression. Not to the extent that Chevy Chase and Will Ferrell didn’t bother to copy Ford and Bush’s manerisms, respectively. But certainly, Aykroyd’s impression was by far more accurate and human than Norm’s.
You are correct - Norm McDonald is sort of an anti-humor comedian but I recall an SNL sketch were Norm’s Dole joins an MTV reality show and looks like he will freak out listening to the gay young adults talk about their sex lives while he is in his bed. I can’t remember details beyond that face Norm made.
