As I recall, Gordo did speculate that there was life out there and that surely some of it was/is intelligent — just as many of us have. I don’t recall him ever saying that they had visited earth. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Read his book. Gordo didn't "speculate." He wrote clearly and firmly that through his personal experience, he had concluded that a) the craft were certainly NOT of earthly origin and b) the government was certainly engaging in a massive cover-up.

"Speculation" had about as much to do with it as catfood has to do with parasailing.
