How about this for a giant kitteh toy? Just remember to account for the cat's location before you start sinking pool balls.

Yep, that sounds like a good idea. We can use the rain, provided the whole weeks worth doesn’t show up at the same time. We’ll just take it one day at a time.

Jackson decided to spend the weekend at his place, just as well as Annie is still kind of puny from the trip to the dentist/vet and she is hanging out on the radiator.

I think I need to find some full spectrum bulbs for light therapy.

I really like full-spectrum bulbs! I use 'em in the living room and the kitchen since I spend so much time in there in the winter. I really need to stock up on those too. Dang meddlin' congresscritters!!

So...where do you buy your bulbs? I didn’t see any full spectrum bulbs...at least not any that would go in my bathroom fixture...at Home Depot.

heh, well, we could use some and it looks like we may get some this week. We still have some fresh blooms on the coneflowers and the cannas. The chanticlare pear tree is just starting to turn. Quite an unusual fall this year. Cold October and Warm November.

LSA got ours at the Health Food Store “Nature’s Market”. Called ‘Blues Buster’ they do last a good long while. Says it guarranted for 5000 hours, who knows for sure, we don’t time and record operating times.

Hmmm....don’t see a Nature’s Market in OP. Maybe Hen House or Whole Paycheck carries them.

Good thing cats can move quickly. Kitty would have to be dodging the solids and the stripeys!

Do you use the full spectrum bulbs in your lamps and fixtures in different rooms?

I was thinking more of the danger of kitteh taking a nap in the ball return.

Tonight's (this morning's) Saturday Night Gun Pron is a wrap-up of the GSG-5 saga.

We start with both the HK94 and GSG-5 wearing their everyday plastic furniture of fixed stock and wide "navy" forearm. I found my genuine H&K parts during the week.

During the week, I also found a real H&K rear sight, (don't tell anyone the orange numbers mean it's from a rifle, and not a SMG), and a longer Picatinny rail.

Now we are in a better position to see why genuine H&K parts differ from airsoft copies. Here's the real handguard on top, and the copy on the bottom.

At 4 ounces, the real article weighs twice as much, and is much more sturdily built. It is also very different in color, grain, and gloss (stuff I learned working on automotive plastics) than the copy. The real H&K stuff is a dark, duller gray, although it's hard to spot in these pictures.

We can see the heavier construction on the "real deal" on the right. Towards the back is a reinforcement/hook that is used to attach to back for the forearm to the front of the receiver. Very few MP5s still use the "slimline" forearm because it got very hot very quickly. There is more airflow, and more airspace, in the wide forearms.

The GSG uses a long setscrew to contact the inside of the airsoft forearm to provide support. That setscrew touches exactly where the support and hook on the "real" forearm are located.

I removed the setscrew, and found out the H&K forearm was hitting that square part of the receiver. After a few minutes of careful filing on the "hook", I lowered it enough so just a couple ounces of "squeeze" on the forearm would line things up, and allow the installation of the pushpin in front. It's actually a simpler and more secure setup than the GSG original, IMHO.

Here are both weapons in their semi-final configurations. The folding stocks are almost identical, with the airsoft version on the GSG being a very good copy of the real article. They even weigh the same.

The factory telescoping and fixed stocks weighed almost twice as much as the airsoft versions, due to the more durable construction. While I could put a genuine H&K fixed stock on the GSG-5, I'm quite satisfied with the sturdiness of the folding stock. Oh, and the Eotech is just a temporary space filler until I find something more appropriate for a fancy .22 caliber "toy".

During this project, I had time to renew my interest in the HK94. For one thing, it's the only 9mm firearm I own that isn't a handgun, and I have a thousand rounds of hot Israeli SMG ammo that can't be used in a handgun, but would pose no problem to the HK91 (or SP89). I'm even thinking of getting a plastic "navy" trigger housing similar to what's on the GSG-5. The inner parts are reused, so it's just a modified empty shell and longer, ambidextrous, selector switch.

There are plenty of variations out there, including ones that show full auto and burst fire, but the semiauto internal parts still means it's semiauto only.

There's one "navy" trigger housing marked "S" and "F" only, just like the GSG-5. It's called the "FBI housing". Apparently a batch of MP5s were made for the FBI with no full-auto capability. Your guess is as good as mine as to why they weren't given full auto.

The H&K G3 system (the granddaddy of everything seen here) was designed after WW2 by some German firearms designers "vacationing" in Spain. Later they moved back to West Germany, and the G3 became the standard military weapon. When NATO went to 5.56mm, H&K shrunk the G3 to something a bit bigger than the MP5. Now, they have a couple of new generations of small arms that could be adapted, if they have the money.

And, for old time's sake, I took out the big artillery (HK91) to compare it to the GSG-5 "imposter".

Considering the family of weapons based on the design, and the dozens of countries that adopted one H&K weapon or another, the G3 family may be the next most prolific firearm after the AK47. You can still see G3s and their variants as second-line, and sometimes primary, weapons all over the world.

No way. If there were four times as many Cetmes/91s/G3s in the world today as were ever made, that platform would still be just nipping at the heels of the FAL or Eugene's Mattel toy. More FALs have been destroyed than HK-patterned rifles have ever even been built. Shame is that the FALs were all tediously milled from stock and the HKs just stamped from sheet. Pity, that.

Morning - nicely done on the 777.

We’re getting a nice light rain, with any luck the cracks in the soil will be closed up. No yard work today.

The GSG really looks like the HK, even a bit better since the GSG shrouded barrel gives it a suppressed look. As usual, very nicely done indeed. The ‘Tacticool’ .22s are sure popular these days.

I’m looking on the ‘net, and I’ve found a place that sells ‘em $.78 cheaper than the health food store. Let me keep looking.

Yeah, I use them where we spend the most time. The one in the living room lights up the computer desk and OB’s scalp when he’s watching TV, and then I have the three in the kitchen light fixture.
