Don't give me that old "maybe she didn't want to die" spin, I am sure anyone married that long had talked about it many times and I wouldn't second guess them..
The "state" doesn't legalize suicide any more than it legalizes free speech. But what can you tell a statist with his head up his butt.
Having worked on a cancer floor, you are wrong that any pain can be stopped...some build up such a immunity to the drugs the only way to stop the pain is to OD the patient...I have seen patients given such high doses of narcotics that it would kill you, but it just let them have some relief...the point can be reached where nothing can stop the pain.....
But I do agree with you that some doctor's under-medicate, cause if they gave what was needed, someone idiot would sure as hell sue them..
good post
Thank you for post 36
Me too!
Sorry. I clicked on the wrong response. I meant it for RAO1125 (jokingly).
Sad. RIP.
If a patient dies from the dosage that is required to manage pain, that’s not murder/euthanasia.
An OD is still and OD. Most doctors will do what is right for the patient......
Great statement, that brings back many memories of philosophy classes.
You all could not arrange morphine for her in her final days?
Surely, he did not have the supported and help he needed in taking care of her and himself. I have volunteered for many elderly people in my community who have no family interested in whether they suffer, live or die. It is quite terrible for them.
Maybe it would be better for her to have the means to kill herself and not involve “health care” workers in the killing business.
I pray you mom does not suffer, too. I pray that God gives you and her the strength to make it through all this. Sorry you guys are suffering with such a painful disease.
Granny, your kids are not going to let you lay in your own feces!
“Id rather die young than have to live to the day when all I have to look forward to is having my bedpan changed.”
When my dad’s legs gave out and he couldn’t fend for himself he refused to eat or drink until he died.
The other thing was that Clinton had just been elected and he said he would never live long enough to see the bastard out of office.
He was 92 and no one in the family tried to stop him.
It was his decision and entitled to it.
I have had quite a few relative die of cancer. From our experience the pain medication does speed death and that is not the same as euthanasia, in my opinion. I can not imagine any doctor permitting his patient to suffer w/o appropriate pain relief. But when things got bad, we guarded our family members to make sure the pain meds were not delayed causing unnecessary suffering.
