Pit Bull Awareness Day
Fox23 ^

Posted on 09/13/2009 9:56:48 PM PDT by Chet 99

Pit Bull Awareness Day is a common event around the nation. Tulsa held there first one this weekend, in hopes of educating people about the pit bull bread.

"Pit bulls get a bad rap but thats with any bully bread, because of the stigma people associate a lot of negativity to them, " Millicent Adu-H'Torah Tulsa Animal Welfare Coordinator said.

Just last year, two children were attacked by their family's pit bulls at a home in north Tulsa. A memory still fresh in the mind of neighbor Timothy Allred.

"As a family pet they are too agressive for that purpose, so I'm really not sure why they even exist to be quite honest," Allred said.

While some people are against owning pit bulls and say they are way to dangerous to be around children. Others are standing up for the breed and saying they're just like every other dog.

i have very prissy, very petite young girls.
if they’re rolling around wrestling, its probably a good idea for the dog to interfere.

Golden retrievers interfere by barking excitedly, running in circles and shoving cold, wet noses into the mix.

Pit bulls interfere by biting little kids in the face.

Give me ONE documented example of a golden retriever turning on a child.

would you like me to keep going? yeah, pit bulls and rotts have a bad rep, but they’re also more likely to be in a home that’s not as loving or willing to take the time to train a dog.

Oh fine, I concede the battle but not the war. Four to two million, seven hundred and fity-six thousand, two hundred and fourteen. That’s the same.

alot of it is in how and where the dog is raised. walk thru my small town and there are wonderful pit bulls and rotts everywhere, that act like labs and retrievers should, and the labs and retrievers are the more aggressive dogs around.

OTOH, go to some of the less desirable sections of any large city, that’s where you’re likely to find the unloved, chained to a tree dogs that are almost feral from neglect. put any dog in that situation and it’ll act just like that.

its not a question of banning any breed, it a matter of people taking proper care of their animals.

You will never, never change my opinion of pit bulls. I think children should never be risked, not one, not ever. And pit bulls are an unacceptable risk around children. The end.

“You will never, never change my opinion of pit bulls.”

Would you change your mind about them if you were presented with proof that they were not what you think they are?
