To date a professor when you're of consensual age may be stupid and lacking in judgment; but it's not pedophilia.
It is, however, a felony crime in a few states, even if both are adults. I recall hearing that there is at least one state where it is even a crime to date any FORMER student. Michigan, I think. There was a thread on this topic here.

pederasty is sex with kids after they enter puberty
not sure at what age that term ends...it’s rather subjective I would opinion wise but legality wise it used to vary from around 14 -18
