Whoa. Up her a**? I’d say that’s a threat of physical violence.

Oh, it was definitely a threat of physical violence. I don't think McEnroe ever went that far.

‘roid rage! :)

“I swear to God, I’ll f -— take this ball and shove it down your f — - throat. “

As bad as this incident was, leaving a three-quarters-filled Arthur Ashe Stadium in near stunned silence, worse was Williams’ handling of the aftermath in a news conference. There, she had a chance to apologize, or maybe even fake some remorse. She did neither.

Instead, we got the usual, phony, sing-songy deflections and silly answers — all done with a big smile, as if she had just won, 6-0, 6-0.

Examples:

Question: What did you say?

Answer: What did I say? You didn’t hear? Oh.

Q. Do you think the lineswoman had any reason to feel threatened. Apparently she says she felt threatened?

A. She says she felt threatened. She said this to you?

Q. I’m just repeating what has been said that she told the chair umpire.

A. Well, I’ve never been in a fight in my whole life, so I don’t know why she would be threatened.

Q. Do you regret losing your temper both after the first set and after the foot fault?

A. I haven’t really thought about it to have any regrets. I try to — I’ve done — you know, I try to not live my life saying, I wish, I wish. But, you know, I was out there and fought and I tried and I did my best.

Q. You’ve always prided yourself on being an extremely forthright player, and with us here in the press room. Could you tell us what you said on the court, please?

A. I don’t think that’s necessary for me to speak about that. I’ve let it go, and I’m trying to better — to, you know, to get — to move on.

Q. Do you think the lineswoman deserves an apology?

A. An apology for?

Q. From you.

A. From me?

Q. Would you be interested to see if you actually foot faulted?

A. I’m pretty sure I did. If she called a foot fault, she must have seen a foot fault. I mean, she was doing her job. I’m not going to knock her for not doing her job.

I miss Arthur Ashe (and Chrissy Evert as a player).

but i am not agree with that line jugde call because it is stupid too call a very little, tiny foot fault in a big moment of the game and tournament

Oh, I guess line calls would be irrelevant during a big moment too?

Serena showed the world who she really is - a spoiled brat bully. She's always been that way. She's arrogant. She has no class.

I hope she get suspended for a year so we don't have to see or hear from her.

One didn’t have to hear her to discern her threats to the judge. With a history of publicly breaking her racket into pieces when she errors or faults or loses, when she walked away from the serving line and stepped closer to the judge than the serving line with a full audience hushed and then began shaking her racket at the judge, she should have been defaulted immediately and dismissed from the stadium by force.

Her walking away from the judge, then the umpire, and then a commissioner, merely manifests she disrespects legitimate authority. She should be stricken from any play within the league and disqualified for life. This wasn’t just any play, it was match point for semifinals at the US Open.

Most 2nd graders have more character and sportsmanship integrity than Serena Williams. She defiles the sport.

A good sport will make sure they aren’t touching the line when they are about to serve with many pros moving 6 inches behind the line and still stepping in court after their racket has touched the ball.

A good sport would welcome constructive criticism when they violate the rules, aren’t cognizant of it, and are called by an official.

A good sport would have been extremely embarrassed for having advanced to the US Open, then to the semifinals, and then still so mentally and physically incompetent as to double fault leading to a match point.

A good sport, after being frustrated, would shift their thinking into a fashion that they contained their frustrations internally, and would never allow themselves to express their frustrations physically. Even if they redirected it into their sports action, their thinking would have corrupted their play of the game and scarred their personal integrity.

A good sport, even if they had so egregiously errored by crushing and unrelentingly smashing their graphite tennis racket until it burst into a million pieces directly in front of the judge, would not later menacingly strut towards the same judge, violently shake their racket at the judge after their line fault and physically attempt to intimidate the judges call.

It’s obvious that had Serena not been called, and happened to have won the match, she would have been called and congratulated by Obama. Did Obama call the white player and congratulate her or this just another Obama racist thing?

Serena wasn’t the better player. She should’ve been thrown out of the league years before this. She disgraces the game and anybody who plays on a court with her.

I am not agree with that line judge call because it’s too stupid to call a little foot fault in an important moment of the match and tournament......

Ask Padraig Harrington how he feels about that statement. 3 holes to go, in the lead and a rules official decided to stick his nose into things. You can EASILY make the same comparison in that situation too.

Rules are rules and need to be applied evenly and without bias whether it’s a qualifying match or in the 5th set tiebreaker for the championship.

And Serena’s post match presser was not a suprise either. She can tip toe with the best of them, with or without a teleprompter.

Padraig Harrington was a gentleman and handled himself with the manner and demeanor that you see very little of anymore.....

I hear ya. Ashe and Evert were class acts all the way. Two of my favorites.

Nastase was a natural showman and a bit of a bad boy, but I liked him anyway. He was an absolute magician with the racket, and his antics were mostly in good fun rather than mean-spirited.

“I swear to God I’m… going to take this… ball and shove it down your… throat, you hear that? I swear to God,” Williams told the line-judge.

“I didn’t threaten (her). I didn’t say…I don’t remember anymore, to be honest. I was in the moment. And, you know, everyone’s fighting for every point. It was a really crucial point, 15-30, actually.”

By calling the foot fault not flagrant is admitting it happened, which it did if you look at the replay.

Did Tiger and Padraig intentionally play slowly and the group in front of them intentionally play faster to create that ruling from being made??

If you don’t want a foot fault called, keep your feet behind the baseline and it doesn’t happen!!!
