Prayers up for your family.

My littlest got it too. He had about 4 days of it. The 2nd through 4th nights were rough with us getting up to steam the bathroom with him 2-3 times a night to help him breathe, but he was playing and watching TV during the day. Advil kept his fever down.

His only symptoms were the high fever (104+ on the 2nd day - that was the highest) and the sudden deep lung cough. He had little appetite but no stomach symptoms.

No one else in the family got it at that time. I was exposed separately back in July and seemed to feel sick for part of a day but never came down with anything.

The 15-minute quick tests are only 50% correct. I am terribly sorry in advance for this link going where it goes, but it’s true. My son also tested negative but he got the flu (and I know the flu when I see it) one week to the day of being exposed to it in the ER. The nasal swabs are just not definitive.

You had the flu.

Praying for your family, teeny.

Fwiw, regular white 5% distilled vinegar is said to kill bacteria and virus germs. Wipe off face around nose and mouth, wipe off your hands, and gargle with diluted vinegar.

Another thing is to rinse your toothbrushes with regular hydrogen peroxide before you brush your teeth with whatever kind of toothpaste you use. Be careful not to swallow it. Or, soak toothbrush for a minute in boiling hot vinegar.

Damn Teeny. Stay positive. This swine flu thing is not much different or more dangerous than any other flu - just more hype. Regardless, I think the Good Lord will hear our prayers.

One third to one half of people getting severely sick and/or dying are healthy people with no underlying conditions.

Since flu viruses mutate rapidly, that may not be true. Notice how seasonal flu mutates so much they have a new vaccine every year. And often it mutates so fast, the vaccine misses the target - like this year, and a the last couple of years, IIRC. Of course the seasonal vax is trivalent and covers three strains of flu (two As, one B) and the Bs to my knowledge don’t mutate rapidly like the As. I could be wrong about that. But this year the main A strain is off target.

But since swine flu pretty much dominates seasonal flu, the regular flu vax won’t be worth taking anyway (IMO).

You don’t have a freaking clue. Plus you must be either drunk or stoned because your typing makes no sense whatsoever.

If you reply to me I won’t be aware of it (ie not going to pay attention).

Bless your daughter’s heart! And bless your heart, as the nail-biting parent! I hope she recovers quickly and the rest of you stay well.

As for advice, I know that chicken soup has already been recommended, but let me remind you that the chicken part actually has anti-inflammatory properties (Google “chicken soup” and “anti inflammatory” and you get some interesting stuff!), and if you make it with lots of garlic instead of onion, the garlic has antibacterial properties. So chicken soup with garlic helps to prevent opportunistic secondary infections. Plus it tastes yummy. :)

I'm not sure the money is worth it for him to make all those other people sick, but I generally feel that way any time we have a monster sickness in the house.

It's unfortunate that there will probably be an economic impact from this flu when everyone can least afford it.

My husband works mostly from home, as long as he is well, he's fine with his phone and laptop. How the heck do you tell someone, you've got 3 kids, they're cycling through the flu so just stay home for, oh 3 weeks or so? What a nightmare!

I'm not sure I've heard of a flu which DOESN'T confer immunity. I'd guess your daughter could maybe act as a carrier, but I would think that once you've had it, you're done.

Hope all goes well! I'll be looking for updates.

Cite your sources! Unlike you I have sources to back up my assertions. You obviously have not read the articles at the links I provided in post #85. next time read before you post.

My 15 year old tested positive for the flu back in March. She was very sick. I gave her the homeopathic (I can’t spell it- occillinimum?). By the next day she was still congested, but her fever was gone and she asked to go to school. This is the second time I have seen it stop the flu in its tracks. I used to be a skeptic, but am completely convinced now.

Try cranberry capsules or chews, located in the vitamin section. One chew is equal to just under a gallon of juice. They taste pretty good too.

Drink plenty of water and some gatorade. Buy some children’s motrin and children’s tylenol to keep the fevers from going to high. You will need some too.

This hit my whole family this year (five of us). I just barely found out it was the swine flu.

It hit us pretty hard and quick. Try to keep everyone eating and drinking and you will be ok.

Praying and bumping.

I’ve studied up on pandemic stuff for several years, main source is the PFI forum which is linked to on this thread at least once. I do not reply on crackpot crap for my news.

Thank you for your concern.

PS - if you want to know factual stuff about swine flu, read PFI. If you want to remain ignorant, that’s your free will.
