I served 20 years in the Navy, 10 of them on board aircraft carriers. One day, while watching aircraft recovery (also known as landing or controlled crash) from “vulture’s row” on the side of the island I observed an officer in a flight suit who was also watching. He was white as a sheet and visibly shaking. Upon closer examination I saw that his flight suit said “U.S. Air Force.”
The USAF song says “Nothing can stop the US Air Force.” Nothing, that is, except the thought of a carrier arrested landing. 150 knots to 0 in 500 feet and three seconds.
Navy pilots are the best.
You betcha!
