EDINBURGH (Reuters) - A former Libyan agent jailed for life for the 1988 Lockerbie bombing that killed 270 people flew home on Thursday after Scottish authorities released him because he is dying of cancer.

Abdel Basset al-Megrahi, believed to have less than three months to live, was freed on compassionate grounds, a decision strongly criticized by the United States, which had campaigned to keep him in prison. Many of the victims were Americans.

"He is a dying man, he is terminally ill," Scottish justice minister Kenny MacAskill told a news conference. "My decision is that he returns home to die."

I feel a bit differently about this affair. IMHO the compassion shown to a remorseless enemy who has long passed the point of being a threat, who has spent almost the entirety of his life in prison, and who is now mortally sick is something that separates us from them. Allowing him to return home to die is an honorable act shown to a dishonorable foe, which is something to be proud of. In the old days, enemies would have shown this kind of compassion to their prisoners. I think it was a courageous act that puts true Western values on display.

We are all terminally ill, in that we are suffering from a disease called mortality. This man gets his last few weeks surrounded by friends and family, the people he murdered had no time to prepare.

You won't convince me that he is harmless until he is dead, sewn into a pigskin and buried in an unmarked grave. He is not a combat soldier but a terrorist and planner of terrorist attacks. He may still be capable of acting as a weapons delivery system against civilian targets, even if his faculties diminished enough to not allow him to plan another attack.

Allowing a dying man to go home to die is an honorable act to us. To them it will only be seen as a sign of weakness. The name of their religion, Islam, means submission. It is not only about submission to Allah, but to each other. Their whole culture is about subjugating women, infidels and other Mohammedans to their own will. They do not venerate a magnanimous victor the way we do. They don't even understand it.

This is all assuming that he is indeed as ill as they say he is or at all. That is something I wouldn't assume without knowing for a fact that his diagnosis was not dependent on the opinion of any Mohammedan doctor.

Why should I care about that? My moral code is my own, and I don't give a rats tuckus what someone else might think about it.

And would your moral code include taking responsibility for the additional deaths that appearing weak would bring?

That’s a straw man argument. There will be no “additional” deaths from letting this creep die at home. Stop peeing your pants about these Muslim terrorists and show some guts, the guts to show mercy to the merciless and honor to the dishonorable. Try reading the Bible, maybe.

I'm hardly "peeing my pants." I simply believe that sending this slimeball home to a hero's welcome is a tactic that is going to bite us in the butt again and again.

If you want to give in to the Mohammedans (and they will see it that way even if you don't) why don't you just go down to the nearest mosque and start learning Arabic. Or be content with the role of dhimmi if you prefer. Either way, May your chains rest lightly upon you...

I’m not giving in to anybody. Muslim terrorists don’t scare me, Sharia law will never be the law of this land, and they can plot to take over the world all they want, it’s never going to happen. Your deranged fantasies about submission and resistance is actually pathetically weak, because it’s giving undeserved credence to the threat posed by these medieval savages. They are no more a threat to my way of life or my beliefs than any other impotent whack jobs out there.

Believing that these weak and cowardly enemies are actually capable of harming us in an existential way is indeed pants-pissing, my friend. They got a lucky shot on 9/11, the million to one spectacular attack that they all dreamed of, and what did it accomplish aside from 3,000 dead innocents? Nothing. We’re still here. Even the most radically liberal unqualified wanker of a president we’ve ever had doesn’t change that we are still America and mightier than they can ever hope to be.
