The “Salieri as jealous composer-killer” was a “theory” made up by a hack playwright.
Salieri and Mozart weren’t exactly friends, but they were aware of each other’s talents and were cordial, at least.
A great book about Mozart is “Mozart: A Cultural Biography”, by Ronald Gutman. Mr. Gutman researched the Saliera-as-killer “theory” and debunks the “theory” with solid reasearch and documentation.
