MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett is in the hospital after he was attacked by person using a metal pipe as he was leaving the Wisconsin State Fair. The Milwaukee Police Department said in a statement on Sunday that Barrett was in stable condition at a local hospital and was alert and talking when he arrived on Saturday night.
The statement says Barrett was leaving the state fair when he heard a woman crying out for help in the city of West Allis.
Police say Barrett began called 911 when the suspect who was attacking the woman charged at the mayor and began hitting him with a metal pipe. The suspect then fled the scene.
The woman was not injured, and police are still searching for the suspect.
it’s a good thing the mayor didn’t have a gun, otherwise the guy with the pipe could have gotten hurt..
So calling 911 in an emergancy helped stop the attack? No, it was a man’s presence that saved the woman’s life. I’m proud that he ran to her aid. A gun with him would have been very useful.
They darned well do know who committed this attack. After all, the woman was being beaten in a case of domestic abuse.

Latest reports are that his injuries were quie severe, broken and missing teeth, very large cut on face and badly broken hand. Barrett is a pretty good guy for a dem. I seriously doubt his hand was broken punchng the guy. More likely it was a defensive wound.
Didnt this guy have police bodyguards? The mayor of Pittsburgh has bodyguards. But then again, he really needs them.
I hope the mayor heals quickly and they catch the perp and treat him with the same justice as anyone else who beats the mayor. (line stolen from either the Cincinnati or Hamilton County prosecutor whose car was stolen and when he asked if the thief would be treated differently he said "He will be treated exactly the same as anyone else stealing the prosecutor's car".)

The assailant had a long rap sheet. My suspicion is that now that a politician has been victimized the criminal justice system will finally decide it’s time to put this guy away. Too bad the prior victims and the rest of us don’t get such protection.

May even clear their logic malfunctions.
They are now saying that this could affect his gubernatorial run. If true, it’s a devastating blow for the state Democrats. The Lt. Gov (Barbara Lawton) is a complete whack-job and couldn’t run a lemonade stand if her life depended on it. The other Dems have no solutions. This is an easy pickup for Scott Walker. My condolences to Mayor Barrett, but hey, c’est la vie.
The Mayor had surgery on his hand today. The perp is in custody, Anthony J. Peters age 20. Thug. Obama Voter. OK, that’s a guess, but I bet it’s true. The Mayor has numerous injuries.

Mayor Barrett was released from the hospital today(Monday).
He lost several teeth in the attack, had a shattered hand that required a 3 hour surgery,got stitches in his head, had plastic surgery on his face for a cut that extended from his cheek to his nose.
“the assailant threatened to use a gun...and then punched the 55 year old mayor so hard in the stomach that he buckled...the man then told Barrett to lie face down on the ground.” That is when the mayor fought back.
