Yes, I agree on the pumping water with windmills. They are still used in areas where electricity is limited or non-existent and they are useful for that but their main flaw is, and always will be, the fluctuation of the wind.

You can keep them spinning - when the wind dies down - by hooking a small gas engine to them.
