The owner of a vicious pit bull that bit two Bensonhurst children defended her pet Wednesday, insisting the animal wouldn't hurt anyone without being provoked.
"He was just a 4-month-old puppy," said Danielle Yuastella about the first time Mac bit a child in January 2008.
"The girl was pulling on his ears so he bit her leg. He didn't even break the skin," she said.
Less than eight months later, Mac bit 4-year-old Lee Fama in the face while his mom pushed him in a stroller.
The child was rushed to Maimonides Medical Center, where he received stitches in his cheek.
"Our baby-sitter was walking the dog," said Yuastella, of Bay 19th St. "If I'd been there, he wouldn't have done that. He knows better.

Stop demonizing a benign breed of dog.
Did you read the full article? I’m more concened about the owner than the dog.
I agree, the dog is an innocent puppy. It’s his owner who is malevolent.
“Stop demonizing a benign breed of dog.”
We’ve been telling Chet this for some time now. It’s more like an obsession, really.....
First it was articles about killer pit bulls. Now it’s articles about pit puppies who nip and don’t break the skin, and babies who get a bite that needs stitches.
How many other kids have gotten bit and needed stitches from being bitten by OTHER breeds in the past week? Or gotten a nip that didn’t break the skin?
The only reason for the focus is the prejudice against the breed. And most of the time, ERs don’t use sutures on the face, they use steri-strips or adhesive.
If the breed quit mauling kids so bad the newspapers write about it, and the victim requires hospitalization, there would be no articles stating the truth about this vicious breed and their owners who always say it wasn’t the dogs fault, he is such a sweet dog...blame the victim, (the poor person who was chewed up by the dog)
“If the breed quit mauling kids so bad the newspapers write about it..”
So we should inundate the FR chat board with stories of GSDs, Akitas, etc...? Seriously, these posts are ridiculous.
Our Lab puppy chewed on my hands so I taught her not to....because I’m a responsible dog owner. I could have also taught her (or ANY other dog for that matter) to be aggressive, but chose not to.
For every one of the Pit Bull stories Chet posts on this site, there are 2 responsible Pit Bull owners who’ve never had any problems with their dogs.
