Humpy Wheeler tells a funny story of coming up with one of his greatest promotions for a Charlotte race. He called the local Army base and spoke with the General in charge. He want troops for the promotion and the General was reluctant at 1st. Humpy asked well they have to train somewhere? So Humpy got the General to send a large number of helicopters full of troops over for the open ceremonies at Charlotte Raceway.

The crowd saw the helicopters flying in and were proud of our Army, then the helicopters started releasing troops who started firing! The Training Mission was on! It took the crowd a couple of minutes to figure out it was the Opening Ceremony and not an invasion. They loved it!

Luckily Humpy had previously notified the local police of the special event.

His not so finest promotion was the school bus jump at The Bristol track. He had to leave real quick because that one did not work out…..
