I think by today’s criteria we’d be appalled at the carnage though.
I’m reading some historical books on American champ car and stock car racing, I’d forgotten the number of driver (and spectator) fatalities that happened on a regular basis.
Of course a lot of these guys had survived wartime combat and were kind of hardened to the whole idea of death.
