I can’t think of very many elected officials who have actively and openly attacked the liberal media besides Sarah Palin. Can you?

And yeah - his ideas work. Alinsky and Obama lived in the same neighborhood and Hyde Park is infused with Alinsky’s methods - it's the mother's milk of modern liberal radicals.
Hillary Clinton wrote here thesis on Alinsky. He was THE MOST influential thinker of the modern left. That said, Alinsky wrote for the powerless to confront the powerful - and in today's world the powerful and corrupt are the liberals. I don't believe Alinsky would have sided with an entrenched Establishment - like what the democrats are today... he was actually a nice person.
