I hear plenty of stuff on NPR early in the morning after BBC goes off the air, and before I'm inclined to get up and turn off the radio.
Not EVERYTHING on NPR is vile, I actually frequently listen to Marketplace -- the other morning there was a very interesting segment about Oklahoma, that unemployment is VERY VERY VERY low in Oklahoma, due to a couple factors. First, the entire populations seems to remember the Droughty Dirty 30s, Oklahoma was Ground Zero for plenty of massive dust storms; and secondly because there was a mini "oil boom" and subsequent crash during the 1980s - and thus there really weren't any people in Oklahoma who ever got particularly excited about the housing bubble.
There's plenty of similar interesting stuff available on NPR, but I don't listen to any of theie political stuff, nor any of the artsy stuff - pretty much just economics and breaking news. I don't need patience for that.
