This must be the so called 3rd way. A totalitarian police state with Just enough privileges granted to us peons to work and keep the parasites alive and well fed.

It's gonna backfire on them as far as I'm concerned. I'm more than happy to live a minimalist existence as far as material possessions go. I'm both starting my survivalist life and my practicing civil disobedience by refusing to support this corrupt government. Much as Thoreau did 150 years ago, but today the government is even more invasive and confiscatory.
Unfortunately, most of the population is obcessed with material items. And can't use simple math to calculate how much they are paying in taxes. I wish everyone were aware of how heavy a burden taxes are, whether called taxes, fees, or any other name.
