This is why I’ve avoided Kindle so far. Its the worry about having my books withdrawn after the fact, and not being able to independently back up my books.

Exactly! And I have e-books, so I’m not personally talking about not liking e-books versus the printed versions. I love e-books and use them — just *not* Kindle.... :-)
I can even read books on my iPhone, if I want to..., but usually I like my laptop for that. But, I do have some PDF files for reference to some material on my iPhone.
