In New Zealand multimillion-dollar projects are delayed and modified because of “Taniwha” (Tanny-Fah) — a mythological Maori monster rather like a troll. It is taken very seriously by all.
Taking things seriously ... you know, I will confess that when my husband and I bought our first house, I made our realtor do some due diligence about whether anyone had committed suicide in the house, or anything of the sort. She thought I was nuts for asking about it — but I had lived one summer in an apartment which I finally decided was haunted (and still think so, actually) and it was a very unpleasant experience!
