Isla converted to Judaism in early 2007, and has received the approval of Baron Cohens observant Jewish parents. I find this hard to believe. Does Sacha get his parents approval of the other things he does?

Bruno is the polar opposite of Jackie Mason in many ways. Both Jewish comedians make harsh social commentary but for Sasha's Bruno, similar to his ali G's two tongue-in-cheek admonitions: “keep it real” and “respect”, there is no reality and absolutely no respect. Like the ali G character, what Bruno relies upon is the approval of the liberal masses — they approve of gayness because it is Hollywood “cool,” shows tolerance and open mindedness, and if they didn't approve, they'd fear to be labeled a bigoted, uptight, right-wing homophobe. So Bruno has an easy audience and does pretty much what he wants, ridicule pretty much who he wants. The audience doesn't see Bruno or ali G as a satire of the dumb tastes of the masses. They see it as elevating. This is where the comedy falls down. Jackie Mason is more effective and straightforwardly honest. Nobody is confused about Jackie Mason whereas there is too many opportunities to be confused with Bruno.

To be fair, I’ve seen pictures of Cohen out of character and he’s not (at least as far as this heterosexual male can see) a bad looking guy.

> A lot of people walked out of YEAR ONE and are walking out of BRUNO.
I dont know about Bruno but I did notice no one going to see Year One at the cineplex in L.A. I was just outside the line waiting for Transformers and beside it was Year One.
The entire time I was yukking it up with my friends I was looking at the Year One movie room and nobody went in.

buffy .. the credits say that The Proposal was shot in new england!!! (I was disappointed).. but I am sure they found similar looks to there). I would love to summer or own a piece of property like that
I liked the proposal & Sandra Bullock is a fav actress of mine.
Bruno was one of the most outrageous movies I had seen. I am truly Naive & do NOT know a whole lot of the practices of the flaming gays & this to me was almost a parody of sorts.. very very in your face (in more ways than one)
this is not a movie for grandma & the kids.
The audience was roaring in laughter (packed week day theater) & I was laughing more at the deep male belly roars than the questionable things in movie.
If you are easily offended - dont see this .. It is offensive even to people who usually can take a lot. Much nudity, homosexual activity & a lot done in a corny way ==not what I would imagine a loving presentation. A less offensive but rather humorous movie was The Hangover.

What I hated the most about Borat was the hotel room scene where he was wrestling around naked with that obese guy. Grotesque. Not funny. Sick. Perverted. Worst scene in the whole movie.
Anyone who’ll do something like that has some real issues that needs to be addressed.

Hot? Sorry, she looks 12, and is not hot. Attractive, yes, but.. hey, I guess I am biased, living down in South Florida where a girl who looks like that will barely get a first look...

It can be, but I have to say, as a Cowboy fan, I enjoyed seeing the guy in Sooner gear acting like an idiot at the MMA fight at the end of Bruno. I was gone by then, long gone. I was in an auditorium next door for a few minutes, then stuck my head back in on my way out of the house and back home, and Cohen was up on stage with Elton John and Bono. That's the last thing I saw.
I guess that is the benefit of making fun of idiots. They don’t pick up on the joke.
I guess that's where we part company.
