Floppies with photos. That’s so 90s. I hope you find your Australia pictures.
Yah. Fortunately I still have 3-1/2" drives in machines, and I think one machine with 5-1/4". (I have spares of these if needed.) It didn't take long to go through the 3-1/2" disks, but the 5-1/4s will take longer -- if I even want to. I have tons of really old stuff, like archives of debates on Usenet talk.politics.misc and more from alt.rec.sca (Society for Creative Anachronisms) from the mid to late 1980s. There are at least some nice how-tos in the latter, including an Atholl Brose recipe we've used for over two decades now.
But the joy tonight is that the Australia photos from 1999 are found -- LoM had a copy on an old hard drive now serving as a secondary drive in her current machine.
But it's been a long day, starting with the news that a former (semi-) parishioner had just passed in New Mexico, receiving our new priest (and I got to serve with him -- this was a joy!), and learning that two more of ours are in hospice and one not expected to live out the week.
After that we joined our Iranian friends for a "FREE IRAN" rally. LoM had printed out the Iranian national anthem (the old one, dumped after the Revolution) in Latin phonetics so she could sing along (she can't read much Farsi anymore) -- but also in translation and read that to me in the car on the way over. Powerful, lovely, and very very Persian in its expression.
Afterwards the Americans were treated to a dinner Iranian-style (invitations had been made earlier). Such warmth and hospitality (not to mention *wonderful* food)!! No wonder LoM fell in love with Iran in her time there.
But the stories of Iran today are depressing. The destruction going on there of the things once beautiful (the rose gardens of Tehran that LoM remembers are all gone, for example) is bad enough, but what the regime is doing to its people is far, far worse. FReepers get this news, at least some of it, on FR but the American public is generally unaware and the American press rarely prints it. ~~~~~ *\>8^(
A little more online business elsewhere and I'm off for the night.
