My friend told me of what she called “ The Tacoma aroma “ after I told her my strongest memory of Olympia was the smell. Breweries or paper mills I don’t remember. Is this still a common phrase up in Seattle?

"The Aroma of Tacoma" - pulp mills. I remember it -- it may still linger a little or it might be my imagination. But the phrase is remembered.
Olympia, though, had a brewery. A big one. But it still has the capitol campus so a certain stench remains strong.

Yep. Now and then, when the atmospheric conditions are just right (i.e., there’s air) you get a nice whiff. Paper mill, I believe.
