Today is the 219th anniversary of the founding of the United States Coast Guard.

United States Coast Guard
Guardian Ethos

I am America’s Maritime Guardian.
I serve the citizens of the United States.
I will protect them.
I will defend them.
I will save them.
I am their Shield.
For them I am Semper Paratus.
I live the Coast Guard Core Values.
I am a Guardian.
We are the United States Coast Guard.

Raucous Round of Applause (and a Guinness, if appropriate) to all our Coast Guard FReepers, past and present, with a special wave to TonkinGulfYachtClub in the Hereafter, and Seaman Recruit Anoreth!

One of the fisrt songs we learned in music in Jr. High was the Coast Guard Anthem. Can’t recall the words, but the music will never die!

And whatever you do, do NOT watch “The Guardian.”

the highly UN-official motto of the USCG, according to an old friend of mine (who was a SWIMMER = talk about NUTS!!!) is:

"You gots to go out BUT you don't gots to come back."

i salute the shallow-water navy on their BRAVERY on the birthday of the USCG.
