My Dad always said they never used the steel if someone fell in. I know there would be nothing left, it was just done outta respect. Hoffas prolly in the concrete at the bottom of a river...lol

I never heard that about not using the steel, but I believe you.
The stories I heard were a bit more sinister... something about the bookies tossing the body into an open hearth or coke oven so nobody would find the evidence. And of course, that steel would get used.

Of course, those were only stories and nobody ever named somebody it actually happened to. But the stories sound like something that could probably have happened.

But I'm sure your Dad's story is probably true too. Accidents happened in the mills all the time. And I'm sure they did what little they could to show respect for their lost coworkers.
