New York - Little people are calling on the Federal Communications Commission to ban the use of the word "midget" on broadcast TV.
The group Little People of America said Sunday the word is just as offensive as racial slurs.
The request was prompted by an April episode of NBC's "Celebrity Apprentice" that the group said was demeaning.
In the episode, contestants created a detergent ad called "Jesse James and the Midgets." The contestants, including Joan Rivers, suggested bathing little people in the detergent and hanging them to dry.
Calls to the FCC and "Celebrity Apprentice" host Donald Trump were not immediately answered Sunday. NBC Universal representatives didn't immediately respond to e-mail messages, and the telephone rang unanswered at their Los Angeles office
I think of that silly old song -—Short people got no reason etc etc etc
Jumbo Shrimp.
All the elevator Buttons
Oh so Incredibly High
I stand today for the midget
Half the size of a regular Guy
Let Me Hold You Little Man
As the parade passes by
Let Me Hold You Little man
We’ll make believe you can fly
You shout for me to put you down
But I’m marching today for your cause
I’m bangin’ the drum
Your big day will come
When they remake the wizard of Oz
Let Me Hold You Midget Man
We’ll pretend that you’re flyin in space
Let Me Hold You Little Man
So the dog will stop licking your face
Little Shoes, Little Pants
Little Song, Little Dance
Little Heart, Little Mind
But your rights are as big as mine
Na, Na-Na-Na, Na-Na-Na-Na
Na-Na Na Na-Na Na Na
Thank God I’m Tall
I won’t let you fall
We’re all midget, one and for all
Thank God I’m Tall
I won’t let you fall
We’re all midget, and some are just small
Stand Up For The Little People!
How niggardly of them.
(:
I am planning a response. I will post it shortly.
Theirs is not a weighty argument.
Actually, there aren’t any “midgets” any more- at least not in the States. It’s a condition that can be easily cured. Now, dwarfism, is another matter.
Seems rather short-sighted, perhaps even small of them.
In the long tradition of banning words, because the word itself is a problem, not what it means.
To quote Neal Boortz, the vote will probably “fall short” of a majority...

Yeah, what are we anyway, a bunch of crackers?
(I suppose they have a point.)
(I can't keep all the politically correct terms straight. Especially since they keep changing. Do you suppose we could just refer to all of them as "you-know-whats"?) (or something like that?)
The headline could use a bit of work.
My suggestion:
Midgets Want to Ban Word Midget
Yeah, resembles some people I know!
We need some one to take short hand for that discussion.
If not “midget” then what? Untall?
